The New Brunswick Nurses Union (NBNU) is adding its voice to the mounting opposition against a private plasma clinic in Moncton, NB.
“Why would we even entertain this idea, after the Krever Inquiry and the creation of Canadian Blood Services, is beyond our comprehension,” said Marilyn Quinn, NBNU President.
“I worked in the system, as many nurses did, in the 1980s, and saw what patients and families were put through, worrying for years. It took I can’t tell you how many years to build the trust back. Every time I went to hang a transfusion, it took a lot to reassure a family and patient there wouldn’t be that risk attached to that.”
NBNU is working with BloodWatch.org, a not-for-profit organization advocating for a safe, voluntary, public blood system in Canada. Together we are committed to upholding Justice Horace Krever’s landmark inquiry and his recommendations.
