Eastern Labour School 2018

Eastern Labour School will be held from Monday, June 4th to Wednesday, June 6th at St. FX Univeristy in Antigonish, NS.

As per NBNU policy – Provincial office will pay registration, accommodations and salary for the duration of the school for all local presidents’ to attend labour school. If the local president cannot attend, another member from the local executive can take his/her place and be covered by the NBNU expense policy. Please advise NBNU if an alternate will be attending instead of the Local President.

For locals wanting to send more members to labour school the cost for registration is $400 per person (which includes meals, accommodations, course fees and social evening). (PLEASE send a cheque payable to NBNU as well as a list of names of members from your local that will be attending)

Monday, June 4th will be your travel day and with registration from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM. A Welcome Reception will be held from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Tuesday, June 5th – Classes and social evening
Wednesday, June 6th – ½ days of classes and travel home.

Members from the same area are encouraged to travel together to labour school.

Please note there is only one (1) course offered in French for first time attendees.

If you are a first time attendee, you must choose one of the following Fundamental courses being offered.
• Legal Issues in the Nursing Profession and Nursing Care (Course in French)
• General Labour Relations
• Legal Realities of the Nurse
• The Negotiations Process
• Union History

If you have attended Labour School in the past you must choose five courses. The courses are as follows:
• Communications & Campaigns
• Domestic Violence
• Facing Management Effectively
• Nursing & Addictions
• Nursing & Social Media
• Nursing & Technology
• Nursing & Workplace Violence
• Professional Practice & Nursing Workload
• Respectful workplace.
