As you have heard in the news this week, Horizon Health Network has met with the various unions regarding fiscal challenges and their plan to review all health services to find savings in the budget.

At the completion of the review which will study sick time, service delivery and staffing, all unions will be notified of any impact on their members. Changes in services and layoffs are a possibility but none have been confirmed at this point for registered nurses. NBNU will keep members advised as it receives concrete information from Horizon Network.

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

Tuesday, 17 January 2012 11:04

In preparation for nursing home negotiations, NBNU is conducting a telephone survey to determine priorities for the nursing home negotiating committee.

The survey, which began January 13, will continue for a three-week period. As well, NBNU sent out a survey to nursing home local presidents to find out what your top bargaining priorities are and to give us information about working conditions.

We encourage all members of the nursing home bargaining unit to participate in the telephone survey and for local presidents to return their surveys to NBNU provincial office.

Your participation in these surveys is important to the success of the next round of negotiations.

Dal-Med-DonationNBNU, NBU and IBEW made a $20,000 donation to the Capital Fundraising Campaign for the Dalhousie Medical School to establish a Research Chair in Occupational Medicine in Saint John.  The three unions, representing over 15,000 workers in the province, supported the campaign because more research is needed in the area of management and treatment of occupational illness/injury and return to work.  All workers in the province will benefit from the research findings as well as improved curriculum and continuing education for occupational medicine.
